REPORT FROM THE PRINCIPALS
I am thrilled to share some exciting updates and achievements from our vibrant school community. The energy and enthusiasm that fills our halls is truly inspiring, and it is a pleasure to witness the growth and achievements of our students.  I have loved acting as the Executive Principal for the last two weeks and connecting with more families and members of the community.  I am constantly reminded of what a special place Amaroo School is and what a brilliant job our teachers and support staff do on a daily basis.

Book Week Extravaganza – Week 6 Highlights! Get ready for a literary celebration like no other – Book Week is fast approaching! In Week 6, our school will be buzzing with activities that ignite the joy of reading. The highlight of the week will be the highly anticipated Book Parade, scheduled for Friday morning at the end of the assembly. Students and teachers are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book characters and bring the magic of storytelling to life. Additionally, our Great Book Swap will run every morning of Week 6. Please consider donating books to the collection box in the front office to promote the love of reading among our students. There will be many activities on offer throughout this week and we will share in the shortlisted stories and them of Grow, Read, Inspire.

Empowering Career Exploration for Year 9 and 10 Students. Our Year 9 and 10 students embarked on an insightful journey at the Careers Expo this Wednesday. This eye-opening experience allowed them to explore a wide range of post-college options and gain valuable insights into potential career paths. We are committed to guiding our students towards a bright and successful future, and events like these play a vital role in achieving that goal.  A huge thanks to the careers team that helped make the event possible.

Uniform Matters and Hoodies Now Available! A friendly reminder to parents and students about the importance of wearing our school uniform with pride. A uniform not only fosters a sense of belonging but also creates a positive and inclusive learning environment. As the weather cools down, our uniform shop continues to offer cosy hoodies to keep our students warm and stylish. They also have the brilliant bucket hats for the Primary school! Make sure to visit the shop and grab yours!

School Photos
School photos will be distributed to families next week.  We thank everyone for their patience as the school has worked with the photography company to expediate this process.

100 days of Kindergarten
We recently had a wonderful celebration of 100 days of learning in Kindergarten. The students and teachers spent the day celebrating all things 100, including dressing up as 100 year olds, playing games with the number 100, building with 100 items, making crowns, and enjoying their party in a bag with their classmates. Thank you to the families who were able to come in and celebrate 100 days of learning in the classroom and join us for some fun activities. We are all very proud of their progress this year and know there is so much more wonderful learning ahead for our Kindergarten students.
Aqua Safe starts Week 5
Year 2 will commence their Royal Life Saving Swim Safe Program at Gungahlin Leisure Centre next week. We wish them a fun time swimming in these cold winter months! Please remember to pack all their swimming gear, including labelling every item. Past students have enjoyed this program and finish with a greater awareness of water safety.

Exploring the Wonders of Science – Science Week Activities. Next week, our enthusiastic Year 7 students will dive into the captivating world of science as they celebrate Science Week. The community and primary school have been invited to join us and witness the fantastic inquiry projects our students have been working on. In Primary, classes will participate in Science Week Trivia, science experiments and opportunities to explore the mystery and curiosity that science brings. the classes It's a wonderful opportunity to foster curiosity and showcase the creative minds at work within our school community.

Student Absences – The school’s preferred method to advise of a student absence is to respond to the absence text in the morning to help keep our attendance records accurate.  A phone call or email is not required if you respond to the text message.  If your child is away for an extended period of time please email info@amaroos.act.edu.au and cc the classroom teacher (Primary School) or Amcares teacher (High School).  Please include the student’s full name, dates of absence, reason for absence and class/Amcares group.  Please avoid sending attendance emails directly to office staff in case they are absent.  Class teachers and Amcares teachers will also reach out to check on students who have had extended absences.

Excursions – A super friendly reminder from the admin team to please ensure that all notes are returned by the due date and that all payments are made using Quickweb or in person via eftpos or credit card.  This is to avoid student disappointment due to the booking of buses and staffing considerations.  If your child has black hole in their bag, most excursion notes can be found on the School’s website.  If not on the school’s website please email info@amaroos.act.edu.au.  The admin team would also like to remind families that making a payment without submitting the permission will not guarantee a place on the excursion.

Safety First – Car Park Reminder - A gentle reminder to all members of our school community that our car park is strictly a 5 kph zone. Let's ensure the safety of our students, staff, and visitors by adhering to this speed limit and driving cautiously within the premises.

As always, your involvement and support contribute to the positive atmosphere at our school. Thank you for your continuous encouragement and dedication to fostering a nurturing educational environment.

Here's to another week of achievements, growth, and endless possibilities!
Regards
Ed, Nic and Prue

LEARNING SPOTLIGHT - YEAR 1
Welcome to our Week 4  ‘Learning spotlight’! Each newsletter we will feature a ‘learning spotlight’ from one of our grades across primary.  We will share with you their words and reflections of why the learning we do at school is important and why it matters. Join me in celebrating our students thinking about their learning.

Student interview - Shree and Ben 1LST
Learning area - Integrated Inquiry - HASS, Science, Technology
Driving question - How can we use materials to design a solution to a problem?

What have you been learning about?
We have been learning about different types of materials and how they can bend, twist and stretch. We learnt that rubber is made from trees and that plasticine needs to be warmed up before we can bend it and make cool things.

Why is this learning important?
So that we know more about the materials in our world and we can help the environment by using the right materials. We also need to learn so many different things about the world before we grow up.

How did you take this learning further? (application of learning)
We made boats out of plasticine and tested them to make sure that they would float. Some of our boats sank and some floated! If they sank we tried and tried again until we got them just right. Guess what though? Ours floated the 1st time!
