LEARNING SPOTLIGHT - PRESCHOOL
Welcome to our Week 6 ‘Learning spotlight’! Each newsletter we will feature a ‘learning spotlight’ from one of our grades across primary. We will share with you their words and reflections of why the learning we do at school is important and why it matters. Join me in celebrating our students thinking about their learning.
Student interview - Abigail, Maggie & William- Dyurra
What have you been learning about in preschool?
Abigail: We have been doing science experiments, we made a rainbow on the wall and on the floor with a mirror and a light.
Maggie: We made fake snow when we were doing a science experiment, we had to mix things together but it wasn’t cold like real snow.
William: We learned about compost and worms. Some things are good for the worms to eat like carrots, egg shells and banana peels.
At preschool, you have listened to some wonderful stories. What has been your favourite book so far?
Abigail: ‘Edwina the Emu’ because she does lots of different things, she can be a ballerina!
Maggie: ‘The Grumpy Monkey’ because it is so funny and it made me laugh.
William: ‘Superworm’ because he saved the bee for the whole world.
What is your favourite thing about preschool?
Abigail: Drawing with my friends.
Maggie: Playing with pretend penguins and making fake snow for the penguins to live in.
William: Building with the blocks with my friends.

EMERGING LEADERS JOIN WITH ROTARY AND AMAROO SCOUT CLUB
On Tuesday 9 May, the Emerging Leaders team joined with Rotary and the Amaroo Scouts Club to make Birthing Kits. Birthing Kits are small packages that have a few medical supplies in them to help all women and babies have a safe and healthy birth. The Emerging Leaders recognise that not all towns and people across the world have access to health care and hospitals.
The photo shows the team working on the kits. We made 50 to add to the 2000 that the Rotary Club packed.

LEARNING SPOTLIGHT - SECONDARY ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
On Friday, 2 June the Secondary School held their annual Athletics Carnival. It was a sunny day perfectly complemented by the energetic atmosphere. The event showcased the incredible participation and sportsmanship of all our students, making it a memorable celebration of athleticism and teamwork.
Our students displayed their talents in various track and field events. From sprints to long jumps, relays to shot puts, each competition witnessed impressive skill and determination. The day radiated with a spirit of friendly competition as students and teachers cheered on their houses, fostering unity and support.
The track events dazzled spectators as young sprinters showcased their speed and endurance. Long-distance races revealed the resilience of our students, while field events saw long jumpers break school records and shot putters displayed strength and technique. Every participant gave their all, inspiring us all.
What made the carnival truly remarkable was its inclusivity. All students, regardless of their athletic abilities, were encouraged to participate and contribute. It created an environment where everyone felt valued and supported.
We thank all staff, especially Mr Slegers and Ms Duncan, and all the student volunteers who dedicated their efforts to organise this exceptional event. Their hard work ensured a successful day filled with lasting impressions.
