Policy

Amaroo School has a school uniform. It is expected that all students will wear school uniform.

Background
After wide consultation with parents and students, it has been agreed that Amaroo School will have a school uniform

Rationale
The wearing of school uniform contributes to the safe and welcoming environment at Amaroo School. Our school uniform

  • Complies with guidelines for SunSmart Schools developed by the Australian Cancer Council and safety guidelines for appropriate dress in practical areas
  • Provides easy identification of Amaroo students on the playground areas and on excursions
  • Is cost effective for parents
  • Reduces peer pressure on students to wear expensive fashion clothing to school

Procedures

Design
The P&C and students have designed the uniform taking into account

  • Comfort
  • Cost effectiveness
  • Student views (this is particularly important in the Middle and Senior Years)
  • The need for the uniform to reflect the three different stages of the school

Implementation Procedures
All students and parents are informed of the school's uniform policy on enrolment and asked for their support

  • There is regular reinforcement of the uniform policy in a positive way through newsletters, parent meetings and school activities
  • Students are regularly reminded of the policy
  • The P&C runs a uniform shop
  • When students leave parents will be encouraged to donate uniforms to a secondhand shop
  • Students are required to wear school uniform on all school excursions

Students not in school uniform

  • Required to stay within the courtyard area of the school and in shaded areas if not wearing a hat
  • Where there is persistent non-compliance with the policy, parents will be asked to discuss the issue with the principal
  • Where parents have financial difficulty they are asked to discuss the issue with the principal.
